Better reasons for parade exclusion

Charles Toth, head of the Wabash Valley Central Labor Council AFL-CIO parade, claims that exclusion of Republican Caleb Fleschner from the Labor Day Parade had nothing to do with politics. Uh-huh. I have to believe that Charles’ nose is growing to compensate for his shrinking credibility.

Man up, Charles. The top ten better reasons you could have given for excluding Caleb are that he might:

10 — not have a valid worker ID;

9 — refuse to organize his supporters;

8 — demand that the parade march backward into history;

7 — be unrecognizable under the tar and feathers;

6 — ride an elephant in donkey’s clothing;

5 — challenge “collective marching rights”;

4 — be unable to follow in the footsteps of trained workers;

3 — consider the $25 to be compulsory dues;

2 — continually whine about “right-to-walk”.

And the number one reason you could have given for excluding Caleb is that he might trip over his own hypocrisy.

Common people paying the price

I will soon be 65, and I started babysitting and cleaning houses when I was 11 years old. By the time I was 16 I was working for a company where I received a W-2 and have paid taxes every year since.

I want to say this about the upcoming elections. I am a middle-class worker, now retired, and have been all my life, and so were my parents. Now, my children are also, and every time since Ronald Reagan there was a Republican president sitting in office my personal assets and finances have gone down the tubes. When a Republican is in office, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

I personally don’t believe that anyone who makes over $200,000 a year needs a tax cut.

I don’t agree with everything Obama has done, and I don’t think we will ever have a president that everyone agrees with everything they do, but at least I have not lost what I had left of my finances after the Bushes got done with us.

Has anyone noticed how the gas prices soared upward when we had “oil people” for presidents, and now the common people are paying the price.

I have never considered myself a Democrat or a Republican, and have always tried to vote for the person and not the party. That is why I don’t vote in the primary elections.

Please display parking placards

To the gentlemen I seem to have offended at Menard’s on a recent morning:

I apologize for saying I didn’t see a handicap license or placard on your truck. I didn’t say you didn’t have either one, just that I couldn’t see one. Actually, you are supposed to hang them from your rear-view mirror so they can be seen. And, I don’t think it was necessary for you to get sarcastic with me.

I get frustrated because I, too, have a handicap placard because of a lung condition (and no, I never smoked a day in my life). It is very difficult to find a handicap parking space sometimes, and when a person doesn’t see a placard, or special license, it becomes frustrating.

So again, I apologize if I offended you in any way, but I hope you will start putting your placard on your mirror so someone else doesn’t ask about it and get the offer to “feel your wooden leg.”
