RONN MOTT: Suits

The “suits” are spoiling the stew. And they claim they are doing it in the American way. They are wrong.

The greed of the American society of business is destroying that American dream. That dream is … if you work hard enough, you can move up the ladder and be successful. It’s an absolute sham.

Wall Street and the banking industry (I’m talking here about the great, big banks) are breeding a group of leaders who are clutching and grabbing everything for themselves. Frankly, they’re doing it at the expense of the American middle class.

A patriot is somebody who does something at a sacrifice for the good of the country. These guys are destroying the country.

From Ponzi schemes to outright lies, the “suits” are getting what they can get at the expense of the rest of us.

We’ve seen the movies … greed is now the big respect, and it was never the case until just recently. George Washington, John Hancock, and Benjamin Franklin were very rich men. If we had lost the Revolutionary War, the least thing that would have happened, their fortunes and their land would have been torn from them. They were not the only ones who put their lives and fortunes up for the good of the country. It was not yet a country, but they had the foresight to see what could happen. As corny as it sounds, they did it for us.

Before the crash of the American auto industry (where many were saved by government intervention) the executives at General Motors had a special elevator they rode to the top floors where their executive suites were located. They decided not to use the elevator the middle management staff took every day. Blind stupidity. What if somebody had an idea that was worth a million dollars? If you were in the same elevator you might have mentioned it to one of the “big shots.” Since the “big shots” did not ride the elevator you rode, you would never get that opportunity.

These were not union workers on the assembly line, but middle management people who kept the company running on a day-to-day basis. They were people the executives had hired. My God, what arrogance! If we are to have a strong economic base, we need a strong middle class. It is what we have bragged about all these years.

You cannot pay someone $12,000 a year and expect him/her to buy a $40,000 automobile. You, as an American, may want to be one of these “suits.” If you get there, keep in mind … it’s the people below you whose shoulders you are standing on.
