Appreciation for great support
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Vigo County Education Foundation, I would like to thank the community for its support of our “Fore the Kids” golf outing. Through the generosity of the sponsors, the hard work of many volunteers and the participation of 144 golfers, we were able to have a record-breaking year.
We are especially grateful to our Ace Sponsors, CliftonLarsonAllen, Energy Systems Group and the Vigo County Teachers Association as well as the many other sponsors who graciously donate to our event.
We are so fortunate to have such a fine school system in Terre Haute staffed by dedicated teachers and professionals. The foundation exists to enhance educational opportunities for our kids by providing instructional materials in the classroom, funding academic competitions and recognizing excellence in the teaching profession.
Earlier we provided $63,000 in funding for grants that involve over 130 teachers for this school year alone. These programs are innovative and challenging, allowing children the opportunity to think creatively and work toward becoming well-equipped, productive citizens in our society.
We are pleased to have such strong educational support in our community.
Thanks again to all of the supporters who made our golf outing a success, and best wishes to the staff and students of the Vigo County School Corp. for another outstanding year.

Photos are better than memories
Some cops do not want a pictorial record of doing their duties, even though the courts have ruled that taking pictures of questionable activity is not illegal. However, in reality, many picture-takers have been arrested and put in jail.
When you see a headline that says the police have an eyewitness, your immediate thought should be, “Yeah, right!” Studies show 20 people seeing the same crime scene report up to 20 different versions. Therefore, I ask you why my expertise in crime witnessing would be any more or less accurate than 81-year-old widow Mary Lou. Just because I spent 55 years in prison and killed half the population of Taco, Texas, should not mean I am not an equally reliable witness.
I might add the police and the DA are only interested in proving you guilty. Proving your innocence is your problem. Now then, when you put the DA’s witness Mary Lou and me on the witness stand, you can bet your bottom dollar unless the accused has a smart and very expensive attorney, old Jim-Bob is going to do 20 to life in the state pen.
Personally, I would rather justice depend on photographs than memory. In my humble opinion, except for giving you a place to start, eyewitnesses are useless.
