Another supporter for Dr. Davis

The two letters appearing on the editorial page of July 30 reminded me that I wanted to register my support of rheumatologist Dr. Henry Davis.

I am a 95-year-old man now living in Westminster Village diagnosed with both osteo and rheumatoid arthritis.

I have been a patient of Dr. Davis’ for more than 10 years. My perception of him as a physician has caused me to view him as a highly competent professional.

In those years I have been highly pleased with his medical services, and although he did not cure my ailments, he controlled them so that their effect on my daily living was kept at a minimum. I cannot recall that there was ever a suggestion that inappropriate pain killers should be tried.

One of the factors I use in evaluating a professional as a man is the regard in which he is held by his employees. The people who assisted him in his practice were competent and highly loyal.

Members of my family have no social association, only a professional one with the Davis family. I regard him as a fine man, a compassionate man and my friend.

Rex hit homer against cancer

The Terre Haute Rex truly showed their character on Friday, July 20, 2012, with the Strike Out Breast Cancer game.

The team and coaches not only put on a great exhibition of the skills in winning the game, but they also stepped up to the plate with pink bats, pink baseballs and an amazing show of spirit for those battling breast cancer.

Casey DeGrotte and Hadley Stinsen’s support and hard work in planning and making the game happen went above and beyond.

Thank you to all who took a chance on the pink bats and donating to help us end breast cancer in the Wabash Valley. Thank you and Go, Rex!

Keep on writing, but why carp?

This letter is in response to Ron Hastings’ letter of July 30, 2012. Mr. Hastings is one of several serial letter writers, and I know his political views from his numerous letters.

I disagree with Mr. Hastings’ premise. I believe the Tribune-Star does a good job of balancing the political views of letter writers.

So, why carp Ron? You get your share of ink in the T-S, as do others.

If you keep writing, I’ll keep reading. I do find your style entertaining, even though I disagree with your political views.
