TERRE HAUTE — Sen. Lugar truly a statesman

This is an e-mail sent to the office of Sen. Richard Lugar following the Lugar-Mourdock debate broadcast April 11 on Fox 10 television out of Terre Haute.

What a pleasure to watch a statesman who never stumbles — character combined with experience and wisdom.

Thank you, Sen. Lugar, for a lifetime of service.

The one point that caught my attention on the Mourdock rhetoric, including the statements of a lack of knowledge for foreign affairs, was his reference to protecting Vietnam from China. Where did he come from in 1973? In 1973 American soldiers and American citizens were still being killed by the communist Viet Cong outfitted with weapons provided by China. Now Mourdock thinks we should consider stepping in to protect the communist from the communist?

Want the baby boomers on our side? Make sure this is talked about.

Special March set for Saturday

This is the first year for the March of Remembrance in Terre Haute. The March was born through Jobst and Charlotte Bittner in Tubingen, Germany, who are the founders of TOS, a non-denominational charismatic church and ministry. The March is held in many cities in the U.S., Europe and several nations.

It kicked off this year in the U.S. on April 15 at a former Hitler Youth Camp in Yaphank, N.Y., with the main event on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol Building with Holocaust survivors Peter Loth and Paul Argiewicz.

The March of Remembrance is scheduled to coincide with Yom HaShoah, which is the Day of Remembrance honoring those who died in the Holocaust, and the victims of the Holocaust and their families. The U.S. Congress established the Days of Remembrance as the annual commemoration of the Holocaust and created the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum as a permanent living memorial to the victims.

The March will be Saturday at 2 p.m. We will do a prayer walk and then, since we are fortunate to have CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center here begun by Eva Kor, we will hear Eva speak of the tragedies of the Holocaust she experienced. The March of Remembrance has no affiliation with CANDLES Holocaust Museum.  Eva’s speech is open to the public.

I invite all churches and the Wabash Valley to participate and honor all those who are Holocaust victims and their families with your support.
