Cheers for new restaurant in town

Fantastic! We are getting a restaurant that serves fantastic chicken items. Even more, they carry a healthy food line for those of us monitoring our calorie intake.

With the current fallout and bad press they have been subject to, I say “hats off” and thanks for bringing your establishment to our city. I am sure you will have success. For those of you who choose not to patronize this business, then so sorry because this is a quality place that in addition to regular menu items, has a healthy line for those desiring that type of food.

I encourage all of you to give them a chance. You should be relatively pleased at the quality meals they have.

Got to love those billboards with the cows.

One last item is that they are to be commended for their stance of remaining closed on Sundays. Amen to that.

Good at acting, bad at politics

Recently, when I was visiting Tribstar.com’s blog page for letters to the editor, I noticed a header featuring Chuck Norris in the NRA’s “Trigger the Vote” campaign.

I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Mr. Norris is a martial arts champion and movie star in action-packed thrillers. I wasn’t aware of his ties to the NRA until I did a quick search on the web. He is now the honorary chairperson of the NRA (a position held by other movie stars as well). He has expounded all kinds of theories regarding a secret plan to outlaw individual gun ownership by sneaking it through the United Nations in the form of a treaty.

While Mr. Norris is certainly entitled to his opinion, I find it offensive that he is representing these opinions as valid to his followers and fans. I can’t help but wonder what he thinks regarding Colorado and now Wisconsin. Nowhere has the present administration under President Obama made any such plans for gun control. These conspiracy theories abound in the NRA. I still can’t see the need for clips that have more than 100 rounds of ammo in them.

The movies that Mr. Norris stars in promote violence as a solution to problems. No wonder our young people use violence as a solution for their problems. These types of movies about heroes who tote guns and chase the bad guys are for entertainment only. Yet people take them as a valid answer to the violence that is in our nation.

My liking Mr. Norris as a movie star just dropped to zero. His far right views are just too much for me to have any respect for his opinions. I find Mr. Norris entertaining as an actor, but his political views are laughable. Since when did we ever take an actor’s opinion on anything as valid (oh right, there was the Republican hero, Ronald Reagan).

All I can say is the new movie with the usual bunch of mighty men (Arnold, Sylvester, Bruce and of course Chuck) is for entertainment only and not a way to solve any problem we have internally in regard to gun control. See the movie for fun, but please don’t take Mr. Norris’ opinion and suggestions as valid concerning gun control.

How many more people have to die before we come to our senses and outlaw semi-automatic weapons and clips that contain over 100 bullets? Now, before you gun owners write in to defend your owning guns, I am not suggesting outlawing hunting equipment, target shooting equipment or collector’s array of guns. I am suggesting outlawing semi-automatic weapons and clips that contain far too many bullets. I am also suggesting that readers not take Mr. Norris’ opinion as anything more than an individual expressing his right to his own opinion.

Please don’t let him or the NRA speak for all of us.
