TERRE HAUTE — Chauncey Rose school going out with a roar

As we transition into spring, we start to realize that another school year is almost over. Looking back over the last eight months, many great things have taken place at Chauncey Rose Middle School.

Chauncey Rose is preparing to close its doors after 40 great years of educational service to students and families in the community. Our staff and students have not lost sight of the pride that comes with being a Royal. The excitement and enthusiasm are still evident in the school’s final year. Our staff and students have demonstrated their Royal pride through many activities and events over the course of this school year. Staff members continue to lead the charge in preparing our students for life after Chauncey Rose. They will carry Chauncey Rose in their hearts into their new buildings and positions. The legacy that has been built by past and present faculty, staff, and students will live on.

The positive academic and extracurricular activities have been numerous. We competed athletically in boys and girls tennis, volleyball, cross country, boys and girls basketball, and track. These teams and their coaches represented Chauncey Rose with great pride.

Our Geography Bowl team, coached by Mrs. Amy Barbour, competed March 14. Those students representing Chauncey Rose were Robbie Cook, Doug Gustafson and Brandon Richardson. The Math Counts competition was held at Rose-Hulman on Feb. 11. Chauncey Rose was coached by Mr. Richard Nail and students participating were Amanda Johnson, Michael Ellis, Dylan Burns and Antonio Thomas. The Science Super Bowl will be held April 28 at Sarah Scott. Mrs. Cindy Strange will coach the team of Dustin Thompson, Nyxie Smith and Desiree Lawson. The Knowledge Masters team, coached by Mrs. Sarah Gore, competed on Dec. 7 and will compete again on April 25. Team members include Dustin Thompson, Nyxie Smith, Doug Gustafson and Brionna Beneze.

Also, the Spell Bowl team competed on Oct. 24. Team members were Seonna Michaels, Devin Salesman, Jared Johnson, Mandi Johnson, Micah Cox, Hannah Ketner and Cassidy Stewart. The team was coached by Jamie Luna. We are proud of all the Royals who represented Chauncey Rose and the Vigo County School Corp.

On behalf of Principal Greg Gauer and myself we would just like to take this moment to say “thank you” to all faculty, staff and students at Chauncey Rose Middle School for making the 2011-2012 school year a memorable one. Without your professionalism and teamwork, it wouldn’t have been possible.

Thanks for help with toy drive

I would like to thank the following for their help in the Tornado Toy Drive that was held on April 14. I would like to SPPRAK for helping co-sponsor this event. I would also like to thank Riddell National Bank on Indiana 46 at Wal-Mart Plaza for letting us hold our event there and giving us a tent to use for this.

I would also like to thank WTWO and WTHI for broadcasting this event for us. I would also like to thank Sonic for their donation of a box of toys. I would also like to thank the kind and generous people of the Wabash Valley for the donations of toys for the toy drive. We collected 119 toys to take to Henryville.

One thing I have noticed that the people of the Wabash Valley are very generous and willing to help and offer support for people in need.

Once again, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness.

School thankful for partnership

The students and staff at Sugar Grove Elementary School are very thankful to have Kelly Services as our business partner.

District manager Freida Haviland visits our school frequently to offer assistance and support. Kelly Services and Sugar Grove have joined forces to improve student attendance and to recognize employees who make outstanding contributions. One classroom is rewarded each month for having excellent attendance. The “You Rock” program honors several staff members each month for their dedicated efforts on behalf of our students.

Our school community truly appreciates our partnership with Kelly Services.
