Edna M. Ahlemeyer
Edna M. Ahlemeyer, 91, of Terre Haute, and formerly of Poland, Ind., died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Davis Gardens Health Center in Terre Haute. She was a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service before retiring after 33 years of service. She was born Feb. 1, 1918, in Clay County, to Albert Bullerdick and Iva Neese Bullerdick. Her husband, Austin W. “Bill” Ahlemeyer, preceded her in death on June 5, 1980.
Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Proctor and her husband Paul of Riley, Betty Nelson Robinson and her husband John of Bozeman, Mont., and Beth Ahlemeyer Tevlin and her husband Terry of Terre Haute; a brother, Herschel Bullerdick and his wife LaVer of Poland; a sister, Helen Kinder of Newberg, Ore.; and nine grandchildren, Chris Diel and his wife Marlene, Sheryl Diel, Nancy Bauer Runyan and her husband Jim, Brad Diel, Debra Ennen, Cory Hankins, Cord Quakenbush and his wife Sue, Ryan Tevlin and Lauren Tevlin. Also surviving are 13 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; other extended family; and the family of caregivers at Davis Gardens Health Center. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Clyde Bullerdick and Rex Bullerdick.
Edna was a life member of Zion United Church of Christ in Poland, where she was a former elder and deacon of the church, and a member of the Women’s Guild. She also was a member and past worthy matron of Bowling Green Chapter 304 Order of Eastern Star, Indiana Rural Letter Carriers Association, and was a volunteer at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. After retiring, Edna flourished in creating her own ceramics as well as helping her friends and neighbors with theirs. Her excellent sewing skills were always available for her family when needed. She enjoyed creative hobbies such as cross stitch, painting, quilting and crocheting. Having grown up in a farming community, Edna knew the meaning of hard work and dedication. She was very dedicated to the well-being of her family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with Pastor Paul Zurcher officiating. Burial will be at Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery in Poland. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., with an Eastern Star Memorial Service to take place at 7 p.m., in the funeral home.
