Dorothy Ames Nevins, 87, of Terre Haute, died at 4:05 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, in Royal Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She retired from Wabash Fibre Box. She was born May 19, 1922, in Parke County, Ind., to the late Albert Ames and Miskel Jeffries Ames. Her husband, Russell Nevins, died in 1949.
Survivors include one son, John Nevins of Terre Haute; one daughter, Sara Jo Nevins of Terre Haute; one brother, Albert T. “Hap” Ames and his wife Barbara of Rockville; one sister, Helen Horrall of Terre Haute; three grandchildren, Melissa Dreher of Terre Haute, Angela Nevins of Avon and Penny Jo Thompson of Terre Haute; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Richard Russell Nevins and Larry Alden Nevins; and two sisters, Jo Anna Carpenter and Patty Lawson.
She was a 1940 graduate of Bridgeton High School. She was a member of Bridgeton Baptist Church, Eagles Lodge of Terre Haute and a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star chapter 43 in Terre Haute.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, in Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home at 287 N. Main St., in Rosedale. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before services on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
