Robert “Bob” Eugene Blackwell


STAUNTON — Robert “Bob” Eugene Blackwell, 85, of Staunton, died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at his residence. He was born April 17, 1924, in Lebanon, as the son of Wallace Estel and Catherine Hooton Blackwell. He married Bette Jean Fulwider in Lebanon. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary this year.

He was a member of Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks, and First Christian Church of Brazil. He had worked at Fulwider Department Store in Lebanon, and also as a salesman for Central Supply, as a plumber at City Plumbing, and co-owner of B&S; Plumbing until his retirement. He also built several homes on his property. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy, where he served as a Pharmacist’s Mate 3rd until his Honorable Discharge on Jan. 21, 1946. He was an avid golfer until his health declined, and he enjoyed his two Yorkies, Cupid and Fiona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steve Blackwell, Sept. 4, 2006; and one brother, Wallace Estel Blackwell Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Bette Jean Blackwell; daughters, Becky Stewart, and Melodie Staley and husband Dave, all of Brazil; daughter-in-law, Margie Blackwell of Punta Gorda, Fla.; grandchildren, Phebe Westby, Japhy Blackwell, Carrie Hussey, Staci McIntyre, Brian Stewart, Jenni Fountain, and Jared Staley; seven great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and other extended family.

At the request of the deceased, Moore Funeral Home was chosen to provide cremation services. A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at 7 p.m., with Pastor Chris Gregg officiating. Visitation with the family will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, preceding the memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 1875 W.
