Josephine A. Lansaw Prose


Josephine A. Lansaw Prose, 95, of Terre Haute, passed away at Royal Oaks Health Care & Rehabilitation Center, on Nov. 24, 2009, at 12:30 a.m. She was born Aug. 4, 1914, in Paris, Ill., to Asher Lansaw and Blanche Spung Lansaw. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles Prose; her parents; four brothers; one sister; and two special nieces, Betty Jo Ann Burk and Josephine Anna Loudermilk

Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Captain (Steve) of Noblesville, and Kathy Bagley (Irvin); one son, Gray Prose (Karen); three grandsons, Irvin Bagley II (Carrie), Nick Bagley, and Bob Prose (Bobbi); and three great-grandchildren, Alison Prose, Nathan Prose and Steven Bagley, all of Terre Haute. Also surviving are two nephews, Thomas Hurlow, Charles Kallis; many nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Kay Lansaw and Sophia Lansaw.

She had worked 15 years at General Knitwear, and was a retired employee of the City of Terre Haute as assistant superintendent of the cemeteries. She had been very active in the Democratic party since 1936. She received the key to the city from Mayor Brighton for 1972-1980. She received the Lifetime Service Award from the Democratic Party in 2007. She also was precinct committee person for many years. She was a member of Northside Community Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity. Visitation will be held on Friday Nov. 27, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Bob Roush officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
