Dewey J. Hood passed away on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, in his residence at Sycamore Manor. He was a retired cabinet maker, and was owner and operator of Hood Woodworking and Supply Co. for 43 years. He was born June 30, 1918, in Cement, Okla., to Thomas F. Hood and Naoma D. Hood.
Survivors include one daughter, Marsha Hood Tahiri (and husband Abdellah) of Marina Del Rey, Calif.; one sister, Faye Hinton of Cement; one sister-in-law, Mary Levite of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents; his wife of 56 years, Lorene Jensen Hood; three brothers, Everett, Ruby and Simon Hood; and two sisters, Rosa Butler and Velma Talbert.
Mr. Hood was a member of Eastside Church of Christ. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942, served in the European Theatre as a sergeant, and received several commendations, including three Bronze Stars, two European Theatre ribbons, and a Good Conduct Medal.
Funeral services will be held at Eastside Church of Christ, 4025 College Ave., at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, with Abe Miller and Coy Siddel officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at the church. Memorial contributions in Mr. Hood’s memory may be made to Camp Wabashi, 3525 Harlan Drive, Terre Haute, IN 47802; Eastside Church of Christ, 4025 College Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47803; or the charity of your choice.
