Frederick H. Mitchell
CLAY CITY — Frederick H. Mitchell, 76, of Clay City, passed away at his residence Nov. 19, 2009. He was born on July 2, 1933, in Indianapolis. He is the son of Delbert Aaron and Lena Wood Mitchell, who have preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Emrich Manual High School in Indianapolis, and Indiana Business College. Mr. Mitchell was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War, joining on July 18, 1950, and serving until April 1, 1954. He was employed as a truck driver for Morris Trucking in Terre Haute. He married Helen Rowsell in Las Vegas. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6606, and American Legion Post 225.
He also was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Mitchell; sisters, Dorothy Smith and Patty Berfanger; and brother-in-law, Bill Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Louise Mitchell; three sons, Shawn Mitchell and wife Marla of Ohio, Randy Rowsell and his wife Terri of Clay City, and Rocky Rowsell and wife Joyce of Indianapolis; a daughter, Christi Sprinkle and her husband Don of Greenwood; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Chris Mitchell of Pacific, Wash.; and brother-in-law, Jerry Berfanger of Indianapolis.
There are no calling hours. At his request cremation services will be provided. Graveside services will be at Maple Grove Cemetery on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at 1:30 p.m., with graveside military services by VFW Post 6606, and American Legion Post 225. Schoppenhorst Funeral Home has been entrusted with his care.
