Bernice LaRue Jeffries


Bernice LaRue Jeffries, 81, of Terre Haute, died peacefully at 10:05 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at the home of her eldest daughter in Brownsburg, after a short hospitalization. Bernice was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Pottstown, Pa., to Herbert J. and Jennie E. (Reppert) Deibler.

Survivors include her children, Bernice A. Jeffries of Brownsburg, Kenneth R. Jeffries of Newark, Del., Claire E. (Jeffries) Bays and husband Warren of Terre Haute, James L. Jeffries and wife Janet of Dover, Del., and Sharon L. Jeffries of Orchard Park, N.Y.; sisters, Joann Deibler Pyott of Lancaster, Pa., and Phyllis Deibler Ream of York, Pa.; grandchildren, Michael Neff, Christopher Neff, Jessica Neff, Kristen Jeffries, Cody Jeffries, Stephen Bays, Stephanie Crosby, Samuel Bays, Jacqueline Jeffries, Jonathan Jeffries, and Rachel Jeffries; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Dorothy Fisher, Gladys Gundy, Ruth Hilborn, and Nancy Moyer; a brother, Herbert (Bud) Deibler; and one grandson, Kenneth Jeffries.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed word puzzles, gardening and sewing. She loved music and had played the piano and organ for church services.

No services will be held at this time. Instead, per request of the deceased, a future memorial will be held in her home state of Pennsylvania. Memorials may be made to Area 7 Agency on Aging in Terre Haute and Vista Care Hospice in Indianapolis.
