Nicholas “Nick” Rocco Perrelle Sr., 78, passed away Nov. 16, 2009, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born to Fortunato Dominick Perrelle and Mary Antonio Caruso Perrelle, on Nov. 5, 1931, in Terre Haute.
Nick was a lifelong resident of Terre Haute, where he worked for Motor Freight Corporation. He was a Teamster member of Local 144 for 35 years. Nick also was a past Vigo County councilman, a member of Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Police, and Sacred Heart Parish.
He was preceded in death by Patricia Jo Francis Perrelle of Terre Haute, to whom he was happily married for 56 years; both his parents; three brothers Tony, Joseph and George Perrelle; two brothers-in-law, Robert and Charles Francis; and a grandson, Matthew McDowell.
He is survived by his sister, Annena Shaffer; his six children, Nick (Connie) Perrelle, Vickie Perrelle, Frank (Vicki) Perrelle, Kathy (Pat) Callahan, Teresa Perrelle, and Mary Ann (Joe) McCarthy, brother-in-law, William W. Francis; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a large extended family.
Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m., at Mattox-Ryan Funeral Home, 602 S. Seventh Street. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Parish, 2322 N. 131/2 St., with Father Darvin Winters officiating. Burial of cremains will be at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
