Florian Cecelia (Weigand) Bloxdorf, 102, died on All Saints Day, Nov. 1, 2009, at Meadows Manor North. Born Jan. 31, 1907, in Merrill, Wis., she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Hill) Weigand. On April 23, 1933, she married Walter R. Bloxdorf in West Allis, Wis. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1987, in Kenosha, Wis., his hometown and where they lived their entire married life.

Florian graduated from Merrill High School, worked for the Merrill Candy Company, and then as head bookkeeper for the Ambrosia Chocolate Company in Milwaukee.

She was an active member of St. Mark Church, a Girl Scout leader, Director ("Sunny") of the Girl Scout Day Camp, and served on the Girl Scout Council. For many years she was a volunteer in the coffee shop at St. Catherine’s Hospital, and was a longtime member of the Kenosha Woman’s Club.

Florian, a frequent visitor to Terre Haute, was an expert bridge player, fine cook, knitter, seamstress, avid reader, and above all a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. To quote her on her 100th birthday: "I love life. I love kids and babies."

Her great-grandchildren love hearing the stories of how she was nicknamed "Dolly," milked "Daisy," the family cow, baked angel food cakes in a wood stove, and as a child rode on the canvas seat of her mother’s bicycle when her mother would go to work at the family car dealership in Merrill.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Dr. Edward) Maglietta of Freeport, Ill.; son, Dr. John (Ann) Bloxdorf of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, Florian requested memorial donations be made to the Kenosha Achievement Center, 1218 – 79th St., Kenosha, WI 53143-6111.

Dates of visitation and Mass of the Resurrection in Kenosha, are pending.

The family is being assisted by Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home in Terre Haute, and Piasecki – Althaus Funeral Home in Kenosha.
