Fern Newberry


Fern Newberry, 94, of Terre Haute passed away Friday, July 3, 2009, at Cobblestone Crossings in Terre Haute. She was born in Vigo County, Ind. on Jan. 13, 1915, the only child of Amy (Dowell) DeBruler and Edward DeBruler. She retired in 1977 from Indiana State University where she worked as a food service supervisor.

She was preceded in death by Donald D. King of Terre Haute, the father of her three daughters and by Harold P. Newberry of Marshall, Ill. whom she married in 1977, and also by her stepdaughter, Nancy Beard and her husband Don.

Survivors include her three daughters and their husbands, Margo and Bill Murray of Terre Haute, Karen and Jim Chadwick and Janet and Gene Robbins of West Terre Haute; eight grandchildren, Tim Murray, Kelly Nasser and her husband Steve, Krissie Rutledge and her husband Joe, Jimmy Chadwick and his wife Julie, all of Terre Haute, Doug Robbins and Amy Lenges both of West Terre Haute and Lori Robbins and her husband Erik Heinle of Manassas, Va. She also leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Fern and her husband Harold, loved to dance and she enjoyed all types of music. She loved her family and making all their favorite foods when they visited.

Funeral services are 4 p.m. Tuesday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home with Pastor Brett Wilson officiating. Visitation is 2 p.m. until services Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Marshall, Ill. cemetery. The family suggest that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice with envelopes available in the funeral home.
