Mary Frances Barton
Mary Frances Barton, 85, of Terre Haute, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Southwood Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 27, 1924, in Vigo County, to Walter and Mae Scott. Mary was a homemaker, who also enjoyed gardening, crafts, reading, antiques, genealogy and church activities. She is a descendent of Lucius H. Scott, pioneer settler, school teacher and first merchant of Terre Haute. She and her husband, Richard, were members of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Louise Shassere of Fort Wayne; two sons, James (Candy) Barton, and David (Carol) Barton; daughter-in-law, Rita Walters Barton; grandchildren, Angie (Bob) Downing, Ryan (Kelly) Barton, Jeb, Jake and Miranda Barton, all of Terre Haute, Craig (Jessica), Cori, and Chad Barton, all of Clinton; great-granddaughters, LeeAnn and Samantha Curtis of Terre Haute; sister-in-law, Norma Shryock; brothers-in-law, Donald Daily and Lee Cox of Fort Wayne; special cousin, Virginia Hess; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Richard W. Barton; a son, Richard W. Barton Jr.; a brother, Johnny Scott; two sisters, Betty Cox and Pauline Daily; in-law relatives, Preston Shryock, Glen Shassere, and Wilbur Junior and Connie Barton.
Services are 1 p.m. today in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., with Pastor Rick Swan officiating. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to VistaCare Hospice or Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.
