Mary Elizabeth Gordon

HYMERA — Mary Elizabeth Gordon, 95, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, June 26, 2009, at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Penny Gordon of rural Lewis. Mary was born July 9, 1913, in Sullivan County, the daughter of David Elmer Miller and Mary Ethel Miller. She was a 1930 graduate of Worthington High School. A member of Hymera First Baptist Church, she more recently attended Providence Baptist Church and Blessed Hope Baptist Church.

She is survived by three children and their spouses, Carl and Mary Gordon of rural Shelburn, Jack and Penny Gordon of rural Lewis, and Claudia Sue and Dave Lofton of rural Shelburn; nine grandchildren, Teresa Gordon of Minneapolis, Jason Gordon and wife Tabitha of Hymera, Amy Haskell and husband Jonathan of Solsberry, Rebecca Loewen and husband Derek of Frenchtown, Mont., Chad Gordon, and Rachel Gordon, both of Lewis, Scott Lofton and wife Jamie of Farmersburg, Paul Lofton and wife Lori, Joe Lofton and wife Gayla, all of Shelburn. She also had seven great-grandchildren, McKaylynn Johnson, Austin Gordon, Tyler Gordon, Zachary Lofton, Paige Lofton, Kevin Lofton, and Tucker Lofton. Her husband, Claud, preceded her in death on June 8, 1988. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Ernest Miller.

Services will be conducted Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Blessed Hope Baptist Church, with Pastor Darren McDonald, Providence Baptist Church, officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home, 631 E. Main St., in Jasonville. Burial will be in K of P Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Providence Baptist Church, Blessed Hope Baptist Church, or Hospice of Sullivan County.
