Harold L. Cooper
MARTINSVILLE — Harold L. Cooper, 83, of Martinsville, Ill. passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009, in the Casey Health Care Center at Casey, Ill. He was born Jan. 2, 1926, at Hume, Ill. the son of Coy H. Cooper and Mabel White Cooper.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Hall Cooper, whom he married Aug. 26, 1947, in Clark County, Ill.; two sons, Harold W. (Melinda) Cooper of Center Point, Ind. and W. Robert (Linda) Cooper of Wausau, Wisc.; two brothers, Samuel E. (Alice) Cooper of Nashville, Tenn. and Ira Francis Cooper of Marshall, Ill.; a sister, Stella May (Bernard) Malott of Elmwood, Ill.; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Coy H. Cooper and Roy H. Cooper.
He was retired from TRW in Marshall and he and his wife operated a trash removal service for many years. He had farmed and was the owner of Woodlawn Polled Herefords since 1951.
As a sharp shooter, he served in the U.S. Army and was the chauffeur for General Douglas MacAuthur for a short period of time. He was a member of Clark County Post 90 of the American Legion.
Services in honor of his life will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall with Brother John Cutshall officiating. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by VFW Post 5975, Clark County. Post 90 of the American Legion and the Amvets. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Marshall.
