John F. ‘Jack’ Seville Sr.

Funeral services for John F. “Jack” Seville Sr., 79, of New Albany and formerly of Terre Haute and Rosedale, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Trinity United Methodist Church in New Albany, 2796 Charlestown Road, with a graveside service at 10 a.m. Monday in the Rosedale Cemetery in Rosedale. He died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany.

He was born in Blue Island, Ill., but lived in the Terre Haute/Rosedale area in the early years of his life.

He was a teacher in the Indianapolis Public Schools and New Albany Schools before becoming the assistant principal/dean of boys and later the principal of Hazelwood Junior High School. The last 20 years of his professional career, he served as the associate superintendent of the New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School Corporation. For several years, he served as an adjunct teacher in the School of Education at Indiana University Southeast.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 52 years and served on committees and commissions at the conference, district and local levels of the general church.

At the time of his death, he was serving as a commissioner for the New Albany Housing Authority, as a board member of the Friends of Division Street School and on the advisory board of The Salvation Army.

Survivors include his wife of almost 57 years, D. Jean Mace Seville; two children, John F. Seville Jr. and his wife Belinda of Elizabeth, Colo., and Julia K. Seville of Fishers; a sister, Ruth Ann Anderson and her husband Frank of Warren, Mich.; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Kathryn Seville and Jocelyn and Jared Parris.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. Seville Jr. and Marjorie Kathryn Wimmer Seville; and a brother, Richard D. Seville.

Visitation will be at the Market Street Chapel of the Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, 1119 E. Market St. in New Albany, from noon to 8 p.m. Friday and at Trinity United Methodist Church from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday before the service. There will also be visitation at Cottrell-Gooche Funeral Home in Rosedale from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Friends of Division Street School or Trinity United Methodist Church.
