MONTEZUMA —  David Glenn Thomas, 77, of Montezuma, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, in his home. He was born Oct. 2, 1935, in Owenton, Ky., son of the late David D. Thomas and Faywood Walters. Dave served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was in the paper mill industry his entire professional career, liked to travel, and worked overseas in Thailand, the Philippines, and Iran, as well as throughout the United States. Later in his career as a paper manufacturing technical consultant, he journeyed throughout Latin America and Asia, especially to Brazil, Mexico, Singapore, and Taiwan.

Always active, Dave earned his aviation pilot’s license, loved to fly his plane, grow vegetables, care for his dogs, and spend time with his family. He was a dear, generous, and compassionate human being to all who knew him.

Dave was predeceased by his first wife of 51 years, Shirley Ann Thomas; and his siblings, Janet, Albert, and Jimmy Alvarez.

He is survived by his second wife, Musetta Thomas; sister, Patricia Menendez of Tampa, Fla.; brother, Steve Parker of Thonotosassa, Fla.; four children, Dena Purcell and husband Wendell of Fort Wayne, Mark Thomas and wife Chris of Sandytown, Lynette Cal and husband Paul of Waxhaw, N.C., and his son, Arturo Casones and wife Barbara of Springfield, Ill. Dave’s legacy also survives in his 10 grandchildren, Rachel, Erin, Gavin, Abigale, Alex, Adam, Andrew, Teresa, Eric, and Lukas; and in one great-grandson, Damon. He also will be missed by his extended family from his second marriage.

The memorial service will be 5 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at Brown Funeral Home, 1028 Jefferson St., with burial at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Oakland Cemetery.
