William Ross Sonnefield Sr.

BRAZIL — William “Bill” Ross Sonnefield Sr., 84, lifetime resident of Clay County, passed away at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, following a brief illness. Bill was born in Clay County on Sept. 14, 1928, the son of Lester “Lep” and Vallie (Carrithers) Sonnefield. He graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1946. His life’s work was spent as a farmer. He was a member of the Poland Zion Church and the Masonic Lodge. Bill enjoyed playing the piano and collecting trains.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Pearl Sonnefield.

Bill is survived by his children: William “Billy” Sonnefield Jr., of Terre Haute, Kris Jensen and husband Arthur of Brazil, and Jeff Sonnefield and wife Shonda of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Sherri Britton and husband Jason, Eric Jensen and wife Melissa, Shalie Sonnefield and Reanne Sonnefield; great-grandchildren, Renee Jensen, Hailee Beth Jensen, Nick Britton, and Sydni Britton; a sister, Francis Mohr and husband Wendall; as well as many extended family members and friends.

Memorial services will be at Poland Zion United Church of Christ, in Poland, on March 3, 2013, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Poland Zion Cemetery. Cremation services have been entrusted to French Funeral Home. To light a candle in his memory visit:
