Anna Marie Moore-Washington

Anna Marie Moore-Washington was born in Terre Haute, to Herman and Arlena Moore, on June 1, 1948. Anna was the third of seven children. Anna’s parents; sisters, Janice Denise Moore, and Alyce Pauline Moore; two brothers, Carlton Louis Stewart A.K.A. Moore, and Dwayne Alexander Moore; and husband, Thomas Washington, preceded her in death.

Anna accepted Christ at an early age and while living in Terre Haute. Anna attended St. Paul Baptist Church, where she sang in the church choir. When her family moved, she attended Allen Chapel C.M.E. church where she also sang in the church choir. In the 80s Anna united with Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church in Indianapolis, where she was active in church activities until her health started failing. She remained a faithful member until her passing.

Anna attended Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis, she was a straight “A” student. In her junior year, Anna transferred to Laboratory School Indiana State University in Terre Haute, and worked as a assistant to the head librarian. After graduating from high school, Anna had many firsts as a African American woman seeking employment in Terre Haute: Anna was the first black women to work at Prudential Insurance Company, Terre Haute Water Company, and later in her career the GMAC Acceptance Corp. Anna moved to Indianapolis where she was employed by Peerless Pump. Anna moved back to Terre Haute, where she was employed by GMAC Acceptance Corp, while working for GMAC she asked for and was granted a transfer to Los Angeles, where she lived with her mother, Arlena Moore, for five years and in 1981 she returned to Indianapolis. Anna’s last places of employment were Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Indianapolis Library.

Anna loved the Lord and his word, she read the bible daily and was always in prayer for people that she knew and those she met that needed a kind word and prayer.

Anna had many special friends, Pam Hardy, Ruth Abney, Sheila Styles, Patricia Streeter, Norman Tyler, Carla Martin, Rita Abeet, John Harper, John Whilhite, the list could go on and on. These are a few of the special people in her life.

Anna Marie Moore-Washington departed this life Dec. 11, 2012, at 64 years old. Anna leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory; three sisters, Patricia E. Churchill, Gwendoloyn F. Yang (Dannis) of West Hills, Calif., and Paula L. Moore; stepmother, Earlene Moore; one aunt, Bertie L. Higgins, Los Angeles; special nephews, Kent Churchill and Michael Yang; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins friends, granddaughters, grandsons, and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service was Dec. 19, 2012, at Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church, 210 E. 34th St., in Indianapolis, with Pastor Oliver D. Walker, officiating.
