DANA — Charles Homer Thomas, 89, of Dana, died at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, in his residence. He was born April 19, 1923, in Dana, to the late Homer M. Thomas and Mary Margaret Kiger Thomas. His wife of 64 years, SaraLu Thompson Thomas, whom he married Sept. 19, 1945, preceded him in death June 21, 2010.

He was retired owner/operator of Thomas Corner Store in Dana for over 16 years. He was in the scrap business with his father operating Thomas and Son for 20 years. He was a field examiner for the Indiana State Board of Accounts 16 years. He also did tax work and business accounting for Dean Kerns in Terre Haute for six years.

Survivors include one daughter, Charla (Lewis) Peery of Dana; one grandson, Eric (Rachel) Peery of Elizabethtown; two great-grandchildren, Sara Peery and Samantha Peery of Elizabethtown; and one brother-in-law, Roy Gordon Thompson of Terre Haute.

He was a 1941 graduate of Dana High School. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Africa and Italy. He was a charter member of Dana Community Bible Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and treasurer. He was a member of the American Legion Newport Post 184, Veterans of Foreign Wars post 6659 of Clinton. He played semi professional baseball for many years as shortstop.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, in Dana Community Bible Church, 200 N. Maple St., in Dana, with the Rev. Marvin Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Scottland, Ill. Visitation is Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, 4 to 8 p.m. at the church.
