While stationed in Madrid, Spain as a member of the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, he met the love of his life, Maria Luz Boggiero, and they married on Oct. 6, 1973. Together they raised their sons in Spain, Wyoming, and then Indiana while eventually settling at the family property at Full Moon Lake. Johnny completed his bachelor of science in business and management from the University of Maryland in 1980. His work career, following the Marine Corps and college, was spent in coal mining in Wyoming and later as a maintenance technician with Parsons Corp. at the Newport Chemical Depot.

The last several years have seen several battles with cancer, but through it all he found joy in feeding the birds at his home, fishing at Full Moon Lake and most of all, being Papaw to his grandchildren.

Petrowski (Emily) of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Faith Petrowski, Olivia Petrowski, Cole Petrowski, and Jabin Petrowski; two brothers, James S. Petrowski (Marilyn) of Terre Haute and Joseph L. Petrowski (Lisa) of Big Spring, Texas; and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris and John Petrowski.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. 8th St., in Clay City, with Pastor Ray Austin officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Marine Corps in unison with Clay City Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion Post.
