MARSHALL, Ill. — Joseph Milton Hayek Jr., 88, of Marshall, died at 10:25 a.m. EST on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born Oct. 2, 1924, in Detroit, the son of Joseph Milton Hayek Sr. and Edythe Beatrice (Haddix) Hayek. Junior served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines, where he received the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He was an ironworker, and retired from Local 439 in Terre Haute. This year, Junior was recognized by Local 22 for 55 years in the union. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 90 in Marshall, Veteran of Foreign Wars in Marshall, York Masonic Lodge 313, where he was raised to Master Mason in 1957, the Shriners, Kerman Grotto in West Terre Haute; First Christian Church in West Union; and he attended First Christian Church in Marshall. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed watching NASCAR races.

Junior married Ruth E. (Isbell) Hayek on Jan. 21, 1947, and she preceded him in death on March 22, 2004. He also was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter, Judith Ann (Hayek) Lindley on Nov. 24, 1981.

He is survived by his grandchildren and their spouses, Lori LeeAnn and Mark Thompson of West Terre Haute and Laci Lynett and Roy Hogue of Terre Haute; and four great-grandchildren, Logan Thompson, Holden Thompson, Madison Thompson, and Sydney Paige Hogue.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. CST on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Burial will be in Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. Memories and condolences may be shared at:
