Norman R. ‘Dick’ Jackson

Norman R. “Dick” Jackson, 79, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 8:38 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, in Union Hospital. Dick spent many years of his career as an automotive paint and body man having worked at Mace Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury downtown Terre Haute location, and later as a painter at J.I. Case at Terre Haute for 15 years. He later worked as a custodian for the Vigo County School Corporation at Terre Haute South Vigo High School, and also for the Indiana Department of Transportation at the I-70 rest area, in West Terre Haute. He was born Dec. 28, 1932, in Elbridge, Ill., to Frank Jackson and Lula Thomas Jackson.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ella Mae Edington Jackson; five grandchildren, Nellie Jackson, Angel Jackson, Jenifer Jackson, Kenny Jackson, and Isaiah Jackson; four great-grandchildren, Katelyn Graham, Abbie Graham, Noah Michael Jones, and Jackson Ethan Jones; a brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Ingrid Jackson of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; a sister and brother-in-law, Laura Ellen and Bill Henson of Clinton; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jean and Tony Savant, and Bill and Ria Majors, all of Terre Haute, Kenneth and Elsie Edington of Florida, Jeanette and Dick Stultz, and Sandy and Steve Howard, all of West Terre Haute; special friends, Bob and Loretta Evitt of California; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dick and Ella Mae were preceded in death by their four children, Debra Jean Jackson, Richard Jackson, Kenneth Jackson and Michael Jackson. He also was  preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Harry Jackson; and one sister, Mae Rogers.

Dick and Ella Mae attended the Trinity Church. He served in both the U.S. Navy Reserves and the U.S. Army Reserves. He enjoyed playing golf, playing cards especially euchre, gardening, and singing.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bob Roush officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be 12 noon until service time Friday.
