Marshall, Ill. —
William Harold Glidewell, 91, of rural Marshall, passed away on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, in his residence. He was born on Feb. 29, 1920, in Hazel Dell, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter (Cora Mills) Glidewell. He married Lenna (McFarling) Glidewell in 1967 in Casey, Ill.
Mr. Glidewell was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and a brother, Kenneth Glidewell, who was killed in World War II. William is survived by his brother, Russell Glidewell of Hazel Dell; two sons, Kenneth R. Glidewell of Marshall, and Billy Ray Glidewell of Chandler, Ariz.; a daughter, Sharon M. Heidlebaugh of Marshall; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
William served in the Army during World War II. He was retired from the Pennsylvania Rail Road as an electrician. He then worked for JI Case for several years. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, and Cubs fan. He played for the Hazel Dell softball team. He was known for his carpentry work, having built three houses during his lifetime. He also occasionally invented things to make rural life easier. A memorial service will be held at Hazel Dell Church of God on Friday, March 9, 2012, at 2 p.m. CST. Burial will be in Hazel Dell Southside Church of God Cemetery immediately following services. The Rev. Raymond Wagner will be officiating the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorial contributions be made to Lincolnland Hospice. Goodwin Family Funeral Home, in Casey, is in charge of the arrangements.
