  UPDATE 4: Deadly tornado roars through Oklahoma City suburb

  A monstrous tornado at least a half-mile wide roared through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday, flattening entire neighborhoods and destroying an elementary school with a direct blow as children and teachers huddled against winds up to 200 mph. At least 51 people were killed, and officials said the death toll was expected to rise.

Lois A. Setzer

MARSHALL, Ill. — Lois A. Setzer, 83, of Marshall, passed away at 3:43 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, in the Burnsides Community Health Center. She was born April 2, 1929, in Marshall, the daughter of John Everett and Lucile Sockler Smitley. Her husband, Benjamin Franklin Setzer, to whom she was married for 65 years, preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 2012.

Surviving are two daughters, Dianne (David) Rardin, and Karen (Wayne) Heighton, all of Marshall; four sons, David (Joyce) Setzer, Steven (Angie) Setzer, Mark (Jeanne) Setzer, all of Marshall, and Matthew (Renee) Setzer of Floresville, Texas; two sisters, Janice (Dale) Ridgway and Carolyn Johnson; 15 grandchildren, Amy (Dr. Joe) Borreggine, Ben (Sarah) Setzer, Renee Hyde, Scott (Cindy) Setzer, Tara (Jim) Allen, Adam (Tiffany) Setzer, Megan (Russell) Arnold, Eric (Nicole) Rardin, Sarah (Josh) Stabler, Jared (Chris) Rardin, Bill Heighton, Garry Heighton, Joshua (Tara) Setzer, Jody (Jarod) Green, and Lucas Setzer; 26 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, John; a daughter, Lynn; and a sister, Ann Williams.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women of the church, and the Susannah Wesley Circle. She taught Sunday school for many years and was always active with Chili Days at the church and organized the breakfast time at Chili Days, where she will always be remembered for her donuts. She was a graduate of Marshall High School and always enjoyed getting together with her high school girlfriends for lunch every month. She was always active with the activities of her children and grandchildren.

Services in honor of her life will be 10:30 a.m. CST Friday, at the church, with the Rev. Richard Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the church. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Women, First United Methodist Church, or to the Marshall Schools Foundation.
