Joan Lamon Plew Pruiett

TERRE HAUTE — Joan Lamon Plew Pruiett went home to be with the Lord Sunday morning, Feb. 3, 2013, at Davis Gardens Health Care Center, where she had resided for the past 13 days. Joan was born Aug. 30, 1936, to Harold and Pearl Downs Plew, in Terre Haute. She graduated from Valley High School in 1954. On Aug. 2, 1956, she married Bob Pruiett. She worked at Eastern Express while Bob was stationed in Korea.

Joan is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Mike and Mary Pruiett of Kokomo, and Bruce Pruiett of West Terre Haute; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Allen Bigger of West Terre Haute; a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Linda Plew of West Terre Haute; three sisters-in-law, Darlene Plew, Georgia Pruiett, and Sandra Noll and husband Ron; a brother-in-law, Morty Greenberg; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins including a special cousin, Carol Whallon.

Pruiett in 1993; a sister, Pat McFarlin; two brothers, Rick Plew and Bill Plew; three brothers-in-law, Ralph McFarlin, Dick Pruiett, and Lee Edgar Pruiett; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Plew; a niece, Diane McCormick; a nephew, Brent Bigger; a niece, Tricia Bigger; and their children, Caroline and Anthony Bigger.

Joanie's pride and joy was being a loving wife and mother to her sons, Mike and Bruce. She also was a faithful daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend. Her family and friends would agree that she was a true example of unselfishness, kindness, and loving unconditionally. She was always so appreciative of any act of kindness toward her. Joanie had a ready smile and contagious laugh, and she always put others before herself. Joanie was an avid fan of Big Ten Basketball especially Indiana University. She enjoyed dining out with family and friends especially the Saturday morning breakfasts. She had a strong faith in the Lord and looked forward to a weekly Bible Study with Sharon Gallman of North Carolina. She will be sorely missed by those she leaves behind.

Celebration of Life Stories for Joan will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., West Terre Haute, led by her daughter-in-law, the Rev. Mary Pruiett, and the sharing of stories, and precious memories of Joan by family and friends. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the celebration of life. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethesda Memorial Park, with the Rev. Paul Shelton officiating. Friends are welcome to join the family at the funeral home Thursday morning for a procession to the cemetery leaving at 10:45 a.m. The family would like to give a special thank you to Starla Jackson and Elaine Ball, the ARC of Vigo County, VistaCare Hospice, and Davis Gardens Health Care Center, who have all helped the family through these difficult times. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to either the Joan Pruiett Memorial Fund, for her son Bruce Pruiett, at any First Financial Bank location, or with envelopes available at the funeral home; or to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, with envelopes also available in the funeral home.
