TERRE HAUTE — Mollie Ruth Wheat passed peacefully out of this world early Sunday morning, Jan. 27, 2013, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mollie was born in Terre Haute, on May 11, 1942, to John and Mabel Blouch.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Larry Wheat; her son, John Wheat and wife Tenia; brother and sister-in-law, John and Sally Blouch; sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Doug Casto; brother-in-law, Loren Owens; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Sue Owens.

She was a graduate of Wiley High School, class of 1960. She enjoyed a 25-year long career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after several years as the postmaster in New Goshen. She was an avid reader and member of the Friends of the Vigo County Public Library. She also was a Master Gardener, who loved working with and photographing her plants and flowers. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Church.

Throughout her lengthy illness, she remained wholly positive, never allowing any obstacle to compromise her love of life. Her warmth, integrity, and courage served as an inspiration to all those who came in contact with her. She will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Frist Funeral Home, in Clinton, with funeral services on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in kind to the American Cancer Society.
