TERRE HAUTE —
Flossie M. Kirkman, 101, our beloved and devoted servant of the Lord, was born into eternal life on the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at her residence in Terre Haute.
Flossie was born on Oct. 9, 1911, in Caledonia, Ind., the daughter of the late John and Nora (Thomas) Stinnett. She was united in marriage to Cecil Kirkman on Feb. 5, 1931, and he preceded her in death in 1954.
Flossie’s love and dedication to her family was unwavering. A complete joy could be felt when the whole family was gathered together singing. In addition to being surrounded by her loving family and singing, Flossie also enjoyed song writing, writing poetry, sewing, reading, tending to her flowers and garden, along with playing dominoes. She will forever be remembered for her wonderful cooking skills, especially her sourdough bread. Finding refuge in reading her Bible, Flossie’s faith in the Lord was strong and true. Flossie never knew a stranger and will forever be remembered for her good-hearted soul, beautiful smile and kind nature.
Left to cherish Flossie’s memory are her six children, Phyllis Roberts of Terre Haute, Cecil and wife Mary Alice Kirkman of Terre Haute, Charles Robert “Bob” and wife Mary Frances of Terre Haute, Pansy and husband M.R. McCrary of Circleville, Ohio, Sharon and husband Keith Waggoner of Frankfort, and Timothy L. and wife Roberta Kirkman of Terre Haute, and daughters-in-law, Rebecca Kirkman and Dorothy Kirkman, both of Terre Haute. Flossie was the proud and loving grandmother of 29 grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Flossie was welcomed home to heaven by infant daughter, Betty Louise Kirkman; daughter, Carol Virginia Craft; sons, Joseph Kirkman and Paul Edward Kirkman; sons-in-law, Carl Kisner, John Roberts and Joseph Craft; brothers, Alvin Stinnett and Joseph Stinnett; along with her sisters, Nora Jane Stinnett and Sarah Belle Stinnett.
The entire Kirkman family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Meadows Home Health Care, along with VistaCare Hospice for the compassionate care provided.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, and again from 10 a.m. until Flossie’s Funeral Ceremony at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 Lafayette Ave. Flossie’s son-in-law, Pastor M.R. McCrary, will officiate, with interment to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Flossie may be directed to VistaCare Hospice.
