Judy Vasbinder

Judy Vasbinder passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013, after a year of battle with cancer. The daughter of Dale and Garnet Cecil, Judy grew up in Cedar Rapids, IA where she met and married Carroll Vasbinder. They had two children, Kent and Dalene. In the late 1960s, the family moved to Columbus, IN. Judy worked as a secretary at the courthouse and for a law firm and was an active member of North Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). In 1987, Carroll and Judy moved to Terre Haute, Indiana. She worked for over twenty years as administrative assistant at United Campus Ministries, just recently retiring in June of 2012. Judy was also a member, Elder and sang in the choir at Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  In addition to family, work and church, a very important part of her life was Al-Anon, where she was active both locally and regionally.  She has been such a supportive and loving mother, grandmother, wife and friend whose sense of humor, gratitude and spirituality helped and inspired many.

Judy is preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Garnet; her son, Kent; a granddaughter, Hannah. She is survived by her husband of 52 years of marriage, Carroll; her daughter, Dalene (Ken McCullough) of Lexington, KY; grandchildren, Nathan and Kaylen McCullough; brother, Steve Cecil (Twyla) of Indianapolis; her niece, Amy Hochstetler of Zionsville; nephew, Matt Cecil (Catherine) of Salt Lake City and loving Goldendoodle, Annie.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 26, 2013, in Central Christian Church, 4950 E. Wabash Ave. with Rev. Rebecca Zelensky officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 4950 E. Wabash Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47803 or United Campus Ministries, 321 North 7th Street, Terre Haute IN 47807.  Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home.
