James J. Haney

James J. Haney, 79, of Terre Haute, passed away at 6:36 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, in Terre Haute at Union Hospital.

He was born Feb. 23, 1933, in Terre Haute, to Lester Haney and Chole Knew Haney. James was a retired Supervisor for Public Service Indiana. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member and Past Commander of Kreistenstein American Legion Post 104 and a member of  the Marine Corps League. He was a past member of the Terre Haute Sycamore Club, enjoyed playing Golf, hunting, gardening, vacations and loved to tinker.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan Haney; a brother, Jerry Haney; and two sisters, Becky Fisher and Betty McCombs. He was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Holden Smith, and two step-daughters, Billie J. Kennedy and Kelly Short.

He is survived by two daughters, Jerri Sullivan and her husband Bill of Westfield, Ind., and Jami Clayton of Terre Haute. He is also survived by his companion Linda Haney of Terre Haute and his former wife, Betty Haney, also of Terre Haute, and two step-daughters, Sally Sanders and Connie Fell and her husband Norman, all of Terre Haute.  He is survived by three sisters, Peggy Bays of Tennessee, Marsha Gilbert of Terre Haute and Barbara Rohner of Columbus, Ind., five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St., Terre Haute. Visitation will be at the Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until service time on Monday. Dr. Thomas Manbeck will be officiating. Burial will be at Bethesda Cemetery, Kreistenstein American Legion Post 104 will be conducting Military Graveside services. On line condolences may be made at: www.greinerfuneralhome.com
