William Nickels

TERRE HAUTE — Fenton William Nickels, 76, of Paris, Ill., formerly of Terre Haute. Ind., and Clark County, Ill., passed away 9:42 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Regional Hospital, in Terre Haute. He formerly owned and operated a refrigeration company in Terre Haute, and retired after 27 years of serving the public. He also was formerly employed at St. Benedict Catholic Church in the maintenance department. He was born Sept. 9, 1936, in Martinsville, Ill., the son of Otto Nickels and Gertrude Nye Nickels.

Surviving are his wife, Delores J. Misner Nickels; a brother, Denny Nickels of Casey, Ill.; and nieces and nephews, Linda Lovato, Sharon Shoesmith, Scott Nickels, Keith Nickels and Terry Lynn Schmidt. He was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Graves; and two brothers, John Nickels and Elbert Nickels.

He was a member of Riley Lodge 393 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Valley and Zorah Shrine Temple. He had been an active member of the clown unit of Zorah Shrine. He took great pride in all aspects of Masonry and served many others with many kind acts during his lifetime. He was a graduate of Martinsville High School.

Services in honor of his life will be 10 a.m. CST Friday, at Pearce Funeral Home, 314 S. 6th St., in Marshall, Ill., with the Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery at Clark Center. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 6 p.m. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Shrine’s Hospital for Crippled Children.
