PARIS, Ill. — Joan Mullenix, 80, of Paris, Ill., passed away at 10:14 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, in the emergency room of Paris Community Hospital. She was a homemaker and had previously worked with her husband on the family farm, as well as at R.E.A. in Paris.

She was born April 6, 1932, in Paris, the daughter of the late James and Glovine (Maggert) Gardner. She married John F. Mullenix on Dec. 24, 1952 in Champaign, Ill. He preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 2011.

Survivors include a son, John A Mullenix of Paris; two daughters, Denise (Tom) Judy of Paris, and Gloria (Bob) Bess of Mason City; two brothers, Allen (Jenny) Gardner of Belleview, Fla., and Max (Donna) Gardner of Williamsport; seven grandchildren: Kristen Judy, Leslie (Tannor) Spittler, Brian Mullenix, Bonnie (Cory) Coulter, John Adam Mullenix, and Kelsey and Hannah Bess; two great-grandchildren, Rowdy and Chance Mullenix; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Kay Mullenix.

Mrs. Mullenix was a member of Vermilion United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Order of the Eastern Star, Edgar County Home Extension, Town & Country Square Dance Club and Clay’s Prarie Saddle Club. She was also active as a 4-H leader and an Edgar County Health Improvement Association director for many years.

For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to Vermilion United Methodist Church.
