Donald Quentin ‘Sully’ Sullivan

WEST TERRE HAUTE —

Donald Quentin “Sully” Sullivan, 83, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, in Union Hospital. He retired as an electrician from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 725 after 38 years of service. He was born Oct. 30, 1929, in Hammond, to Maurice Sullivan and Elizabeth Mann Sullivan.

Survivors include his wife, Eva J. “Pete” Childress Sullivan, whom he married on June 2, 1951, in St. Mary’s Village Catholic Church; five children, Elizabeth “Libby” Robinson and her husband Gary of Haines City, Fla., Robert Q. Sullivan of Terre Haute, Donna Polky and her husband Ken of Terre Haute, David M. Sullivan of West Terre Haute, and Mary Jane Wheatfill and her husband Rick of Terre Haute; three sisters, Ruthita Joy of Anderson, Patricia Hensley of Terre Haute, and Maureen Hilgeman of Arizona; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rhonni and Dane Montgomery of West Terre Haute; 12 grandchildren, Michael Robinson, Mark Robinson, Brian Sullivan, Lauren Sullivan, Patrick Sullivan, Shawn Sullivan, Ryan Sullivan, Christopher Polky, Alexander Polky, Matthew Polky, Bridget Wheatfill, and Ricky Wheatfill; six great-grandchildren, Courtney Robinson, Madison Robinson, Rylee Robinson, Adaline Sullivan, Amelia Sullivan, and Ty Sullivan; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, John Sullivan; his parents; and a brother, Thomas Sullivan.

Don was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Village Catholic Church, a graduate of Concannon High School class of 1947, a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army, a 59-year member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 725, a 62-year member of the American Legion Post 104, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6574. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed going mushroom hunting and working in his garden raising both vegetables and flowers .

Mass of Christian burial for Don will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, in the Village Church with Father Bernard Head officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military graveside rites by Vigo County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., West Terre Haute. Friends are welcome to join the family Monday morning at the funeral home for a prayer service at 9:20 a.m. and procession to the church. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Wabash Valley.
