MONTEZUMA — Gene C. Grimes, 87, of Montezuma, our beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin. and friend went home to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. Gene was born in Lyndonville, N.Y. on Nov. 1, 1925, the daughter of the late Lowell and Marie (Manley) Barnum.

She was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Elmer Grimes on Feb. 7, 1948. Gene was a proud and dedicated mother and an excellent homemaker. As a loving and easy going person, Gene enjoyed the company of her family and friends. She was an avid Yahtzee player and a huge NASCAR fan.

She leaves behind her son, Bruce and wife Eva June Grimes of Terre Haute; sister, Veva Wienke of Lyndonville; along with several loving nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Gene was welcomed home to heaven by her husband of nearly 60 years, Elmer, on Feb. 1, 2008.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, from 4 until 8 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., in Terre Haute. Gene’s funeral ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Monte Reichenberg will officiate with interment to follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in memory of Gene may be directed to Meadows Manor North’s Activity Center, 3150 N. 7th St., Terre Haute, IN. 47804. The entire Grimes family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Meadows Manor North, Tamika and all the staff of Union Hospital 4 East for the compassionate care provided.
