Genevieve Virginia Reisner

Genevieve Virginia Reisner, age 90, peacefully passed from us on Nov. 23, 2012, in Clarksville, Tenn. She was a long time Vigo County resident who had moved to Tennessee to be closer to family. Born Sept. 11, 1922, in Hidalgo, Ill., to Robert and Elizabeth Leach Davison. Her parents; and her husband, Carol A. Royce Reisner, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children, Dan (Alicia) Reisner of Carrollton, Ky., Beth (Ron) Heiby of San Jose, Calif., and Priscilla (Tim) Roads of Clarksville, Tenn.; and her grandchildren, Isaac (Caroline) Reisner, John Reisner, Andrew Roads and Elizabeth (Thomas) Upchurch; and one great-grand son, Asher Andrew Upchurch.

Mrs. Reisner was a baccalaureate graduate of McKendree College, and served for 32 years as a community resource librarian at the Vigo County Public Library. She was an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, Medical Missions International in Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, Lifeline, MADD, St. Anne’s Free Medical Clinic, Literacy Tutor, Friends of VCPL, and she helped to establish the Area 7 Agency on Aging and the Disabled. Her volunteer work was recognized when she was awarded the Older Hoosier of the Year in 2000 by the Indiana Governor’s Conference on Aging.

She was an active member of Christus Victor Lutheran Church and spent her leisure time gardening, reading and with her cats and grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at Christus Victor Lutheran Church, 8461 Budd Road, Terre Haute, with funeral services to begin at 10 a.m., with the Revs. George Mercer and Barry Bostrum presiding. She will be buried at Aten Cemetery, in Hidalgo, following the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations maybe made to either the Christus Victor Church or Habitat for Humanity of Vigo County. Barkley Funeral Chapel, in Greenup, Ill., assisted with arrangements.
