William N. Doan

William N. Doan, Sr., 82, of Terre Haute, died Saturday morning, December 1, 2012. He was a long-time prominent businessman in the Terre Haute area and was the owner/co-owner of Doan Ford and Doan & Decker Ford of Terre Haute from 1971-1998. Bill was born June 1, 1930 in Fifield, Wisconsin, to Herbert A. Doan, Sr. and Helena Clark Doan. His wife, Patricia J. Congleton Doan preceded him in death in 1997.

Survivors include his three children, William N. Doan, Jr. and his wife, Kris, of Terre Haute, Margaret Sanders and her husband, Steve, of Terre Haute, and John Doan and his companion, Mona Krieble, of Santa Claus, Indiana; his grandchildren, Bill N. Doan III and his wife, Ryan, Jessica Dowell and her husband, Josh, Robyn McIntosh and her husband, Mike, Melissa Pastore, Stephanie Kramer and her husband, Brad, Kristina Runyan and her husband, Travis, Katie Mattingly and her husband, Curt, Brian Krieble and his wife, Brittany, and Emily Krieble; his great-grandchildren, JR, Brody, Kennedy, Makensie, Jadelyn, Madison, Griffin and Amira; and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School where he played on the 1950 basketball team and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In addition to being well known in the automotive industry, Bill was also an accomplished golfer having played in numerous tournaments both in Indiana and regionally and was the 1985 Indiana Senior State Champion. He was a member and played for many years at the Elks Club, Country Club of Terre Haute and Wolf Run Golf Club in Zionsville.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, December 5, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. Private funeral services with Pastor Rick Swan and burial with Military Graveside Honors provided by VFW Post #972 will take place on Thursday, December 6 at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family kindly requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Boys & Girls Club, 924 North 13th, Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807 or to the Terre Haute Humane Shelter, 1811 South Fruitridge Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47803.
