MARSHALL, Ind. —
James “Larry” Hoover, 71, of Marshall, died at 9:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Union Hospital, in Terre Haute. He was born June 24, 1941, in Marshall, the son of James and Catherine Osborn Hoover.
Survivors include his wife, Dotty Branson Hoover of Bloomingdale, whom he married June 23, 1962, in Bloomingdale; son, Jamie Hoover (Marilynn) of Marshall; a granddaughter, Alexis; and a grandson, Cade
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an aunt, Inez Carpenter.
He graduated in 1959 as a member of the first graduating class from Turkey Run High School, and he scored the first touchdown for Turkey Run High School.
He worked for Kraft Foods in Marshall for 10 years, Turkey Run Canoe Rental for 40 years, and retired from Futurex Industries having worked there 33 years. He was the clerk-treasurer and water superintendent for the town of Marshall for 35 years.
He was a member of Marshall Federated Church, Bloomingdale Lodge 127 Free & Accepted Masons, Marshall Volunteer Fire Department for 45 years, and National Rifle Association. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, mushroom hunting and playing basketball. Larry played basketball at the Hub in Veedersburg until he was 70 years old.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at the church, with the Rev. Don Perry and Pastor Keith McIntyre officiating. Burial is at Poplar Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Barnes and Rice Funeral Home, in Rockville. There will be a Masonic memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
