Kurtis Matthew Phillips

REELSVILLE — Kurtis Matthew Phillips, 16, of Reelsville, died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at Riley Hospital, in Indianapolis, due to a sudden illness. He was born July 2, 1996, in Vigo County, the son of Daniel Curtis Phillips and Shirlie Barnett Phillips. He was currently attending Area 30 Career Center in Greencastle.  He had attended the Victory Baptist Church and most recently had attended Calvary Baptist Church in Brazil.

Kurtis was a special needs young man who made friends easily even though he was considered non-verbal. He was a happy, easy to please person. He loved basketball, baseball, and the Colts Football. He also collected hot wheels cars and enjoyed computer games. He also enjoyed being outside and time spent with family and friends. He also loved the family dog, “Peaches.”

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Charles “Pat” Barnett and John Phillips; and one aunt, Nancy Lawson.

Survivors include his parents, Dan and Shirlie Phillips of Reelsville; one sister, Jessica Phillips of Terre Haute; one brother, Mitchel Phillips of Reelsville; uncles and aunts, Rick and Brenda Barnett, and Dennis and Deanne Barnett of Brazil; grandmothers, Virginia Barnett of Brazil and Ellen Phillips of Ohio; and many cousins.

Services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at 11 a.m. at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave., in Brazil, with Pastor Jason Selby officiating. Burial will follow in Clearview Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and again Tuesday prior to services. Light a candle in his memory at:
