Pauline F. Galey, a remarkable and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away on the morning of Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at Royal Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 87.
Pauline was born on May 15, 1925, in Terre Haute, the daughter of the late Elmer and Lina (Creek) Smith. She was united in marriage to Rollie Ray Galey on June 28, 1946, in Terre Haute. Their marriage was blessed with over 65 years and three children.
Pauline owned and operated Gala’s Kennels. Her love and passion for raising many different breeds of dogs will not soon be forgotten. She enjoyed her Florida travel time with her favorite son, Jack and spending time in Kansas with her second favorite son, Gary. Her hobbies included spending time with her family, collecting jewelry, making crafts and her favorite, shopping with her daughter Tina and later with Marla. Pauline was a woman who was very ahead of her time, strong willed and independent. She instilled great morals and successful traits in those she loved. Pauline was a former member of Smith Park Methodist Church.
Pauline leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Gary Galey of Terre Haute and Tina and husband Jimmy Horrall of Terre Haute; daughter-in-law, Pat Galey of Tallahassee, Fla.; grandchildren, Mark and wife Tammy Galey of Tallahassee, Sheila and husband Walt Efferen of Gainsville, Fla., Elizabeth and husband Blake Reed of Terre Haute; and her special honorary granddaughter, Marla and husband Erik Wickens of Avon. Pauline also leaves behind her great-grandchildren whom she adored, Michael and Monica, as well as her in-laws, Freda and husband Plen Smith of West Terre Haute, Lou and husband Charles Dunham of West Terre Haute, James Cannaday of Dennison, Ill., and Marietta Cannaday of Terre Haute, as well as several loving nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Pauline was welcomed home to heaven by her faithful and devoted husband, Rollie; her favorite son, Jack; her sister, Margie Harmon and brother-in-law, Deward Harmon. George and Gertie are now at peace and reunited.
The entire Galey family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of Royal Oaks and Vista Care Hospice for their kind, loving and compassionate care they provided.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2012, at Roselawn Memorial Park in the Companion Section. The Rev. Curtis Mitchell will officiate. Memorial contributions in memory of Pauline may be directed to the Vigo County Humane Society or Smith Park Methodist Church.
