Harmon Sietze Jorritsma

MONTEZUMA — Harmon Sietze Jorritsma, 81, of Montezuma, died at 4:20 a.m. Sunday, July 15, 2012, in Rockville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was a retired art teacher for Glenn High School, in Seelyville, and an art teacher and guidance counselor for Santiago High School, in Garden Grove, Calif. He was born Jan. 17, 1931, in Indianapolis, to the late Herman Sietze Jorritsma and Irene Allen Jorritsma.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty I. Hale Jorritsma, whom he married Dec. 23, 1951; two daughters, Debi Parham of Indianapolis, and Tina (Neil) Allee of Bloomingdale; one sister, Phyllis (Scott) Jones of Terre Haute; and three grandchildren, Natalia (Mike) Van Duyn of Noblesville, Terin Allee of Bloomingdale, and Dalen Allee of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by a brother, Todd Jorritsma.

He was a graduate of Otter Creek High School and Indiana State Teachers College. He also attended Cal State Fullerton for his administrative license. He was a member of the Linebarger Chapel United Methodist Church, in West Union, Ind., and the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove. He and Betty were both round dancing teachers for more than 40 years. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, serving as a Czechoslovakian interpreter.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard St. , in Rockville, with the Rev. Leon Myers officiating. Inurnment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park, in Terre Haute. Memorial visitation will be 1 p.m. until services Saturday.
