Mary E. Tanner

HYMERA — Mary E. Tanner, 71, of Hymera, and formerly of Owensboro, Ky., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at her residence. She was born in Dunmore, Ky., on May 25, 1941, to Earl and Lillian Oleta (Blackwell) Dame.

She was a member of Emmanuel Apostolic Church of Hymera. She was known to many of the children in the church as Mamaw Tanner and the champion corn hole queen. Mary and her deceased husband, the Rev. Martin Tanner Jr., were the founders of the original Apostolic Lighthouse church of Owensboro. She loved the Lord with all of her heart and was very active in church ministry until her death. Her children (spouses) and grandchildren were her heartbeat. She was a very family oriented person with her family and many that she adopted as her own. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, the Rev. Martin Tanner Jr.; a sister, Wilma Dame; and two brothers, Norris and Jewel Dame.

Surviving relatives are her children, Connie (Jerry) Quick of Hymera, Marty (Tara) Tanner of Owensboro; one brother, Roger (Dorothy) Dame of Auburn, Ky.; eight sisters, Nelda Parker and Wanda Coon of Sacramento, Ky., Diane Doll, Nancy Garner, Luvern Schlomer and Lillian Roberts of Owensboro, Linda Mahaney of Monticello, Ky., and Earlene May of Panther, Ky.; and five grandchildren, Logan and Landon Quick, Caleb, Brooke and Ashlyn Tanner.

Services will be at 7 p.m. today, Aug. 31, 2012, at Emmanuel Apostolic Church in Hymera with Pastor James E. Quick officiating. Visitation will take place at the church from 4 p.m. until the time of services. There will be an additional visitation at James H. Davis Funeral Home, Owensboro, on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., followed by graveside services at Nickel Ridge Cemetery. Local arrangements are being handled by Holmes Memorial Chapel. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to offset medical expenses. Envelopes will be available at the church and Davis Funeral Home.
