Margaret ‘Josephine’ Mitten

CLAY CITY — Margaret “Josephine” Mitten, 96, of Clay City, formerly of Worthington, passed away 1:35 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Shakamak Good Samaritan Center, Jasonville. She was born Feb. 5, 1916, in Greene County, to Edward E. Hines and Ethel (Hancock) Hines.

Josephine was a homemaker and was a secretary with her husband in the Mitten Insurance Agency and Home Appliance Store in Worthington. She was a member of Folsom Memorial United Methodist Church in Worthington, and after moving to Clay City she attended Faith Southern Baptist Church in Clay City.

She is survived by one son, Randall G. (Linda) Mitten of Clay City; daughter-in-law, Diane Mitten of Cape Coral, Fla.; four grandchildren, Darla (Dan) Mitten-Hire of Clayton, Bryan (Cindy) Mitten of Brazil, Kimberly (Mitchell) Hyatt of Brazil, and Traci (Forrest) Skelton of Clay City; and eight great-grandchildren, Danny, Travis and Evan Mitten; Damon, Dylan and Jinna Hyatt and Brock and Madelyn Skelton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Benjamin B. Mitten, on July 12, 1993; one son, Philip E. Mitten; and one great-grandson, Devin J. Hyatt.

Funeral services are 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington, with the Rev. David Clapp. Friends may call at the funeral home after 11 a.m. Monday until time of service. Burial will be in Worthington Cemetery. Online condolences for the family can be made at:
