TERRE HAUTE — F. Corrine Smith Sherman Sanford Phelps, of La Mesa, Calif., died at 1:32 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, in Hospice Hospital, in San Diego. She was formerly of Terre Haute. She was born to Ruby P. Moore Smith and Walter Smith on April 16, 1938.

Corrine was able to do most of her “bucket list” this summer. She had a trip to the State of Washington, then a motor home trip with her son, Mike, across the beautiful United States to Indiana, stopping many places. She saw family and friends during her month-long trip.

Corrine is survived by her sons, Dean Sherman Jr. (Marilyn) of Ann Arbor, Mich., Michael and Curtis Sanford of San Diego; sisters and brothers, Mary E. Stansberry, Melvin (Bud) Smith, Delores (Edward) Wilson, all of Terre Haute, Doris (Delbert) Venters of Plant City, Fla., and Benny (Becky) Smith of Seelyville; special friend, Bob Weisser of San Diego; special great-nephew, her pen pal, Matthew Wilson; former husband, Ronald (Monica) Sanford, the father of two of her sons. She had four grandchildren, Justin and Lauren Sherman and Nick and Rheanna Sanford; an aunt, Martha Moore of Rockville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gordon Phelps Jr., U.S. Navy, retired; her brothers and sisters, Edward Smith, William Smith and Lillian Austin; and former husband, Dean J. Sherman, father of her oldest son.

Cremation is scheduled with interment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma Naval Base, San Diego.
