Lucy Faye Roeback

. — Lucy Faye Roeback, 84, of Terre Haute, and formerly of Montezuma, and St. Mary-of-the-Woods, passed away at 9:55 a.m. on Aug. 29, 2010, at Meadows Manor North in Terre Haute. She was born on Dec. 17, 1925, in Vermillion County, to Kenneth Thomas and Harriet Violet Conger Thomas. She married Robert Roeback on Feb. 10, 1949, and he preceded her in death. She was a bookkeeper for her husband’s garage business.

She also is preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Burl Dale Thomas. She is survived by her beloved dog, Cody Paul; her nephew and caregiver, David Wyatt of Dana; sisters, Vonnie Kesling of Terre Haute, Peggy Wyatt of St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Evelyn (Tom) Johnston, Joyce (Bob) Geiger, and Sharon Stuart; a brother, Neil Thomas, all of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at Brown-Mack Funeral Home in Montezuma with services at 11 a.m. with Bob Howard officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Montezuma. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society,

Helen LaVerne Scofield

Helen LaVerne Scofield, 88, of Terre Haute, passed away at 9:26 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, in Union Hospital. She was born in Terre Haute on Aug. 26, 1922, to Clarence Burns and Anna Reynolds Burns. She married Jack Scofield on June 16, 1946, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 1996. Also preceding her in death were three sisters, Althea Larison, Mildred Daugherty, and Delores Fagg. 

She is survived by two daughters, Jackie Seddelmeyer and husband John, and Nancy Geiger and husband Leonard; one brother, Bill Burns; one sister, Dorothy Allan; three grandchildren, Julia Vaughn and husband Jon, Jennifer Seddelmeyer, and Andrew Geiger; as well as two great-grandchildren, Taylor Vaughn and Brittany Vaughn. 

She attended Eighth Avenue Baptist Church, where she was one of the “back row church ladies” with her friend Vaunda. She was an avid Terre Haute North High School basketball fan and enjoyed watching and attending other sporting events. She enjoyed attending musicals and plays in which her granddaughters gave performances, and also was very proud of her grandson’s work in television, and enjoyed visiting with all her family at the family reunions. 

Funeral services will be at Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 2, 2010, with the Rev. Dick Smith officiating. Burial will be at Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions be made to either Eighth Avenue Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society, in her memory.
