Martha Joan Jenkins Waite, 65, of Clinton, passed away at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, following an extended illness. She was born on Dec. 19, 1944, in Brazil, to James Emery Jenkins and Evelyn O. Short Jenkins.
She graduated from Brazil High School, class of 1962. She graduated from IU Medical Center in 1968, as a radiologic technologist. She worked at Clay County Hospital in Brazil for five years. On Nov. 14, 1970, she married David G. Waite in Brazil. They moved to Clinton in 1975, where she worked at Vermillion County Hospital for 10 years. She retired in 1986 to join her husband at Frist Funeral Home, where she worked until ill health forced her to retire. She was a member of the Clinton United Methodist Church, American Registry of Radiologic Technologist, and Jerusalem Order of Eastern Star Chapter 254 of Clinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and aunts and uncles, Everett Jenkins, Nelle Jenkins, Bill Jenkins, Olyn Killion, Lula Daviess, Beulah Jenkins, Faye Jenkins, and Rosemary Wilson.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, David G. Waite, of Clinton; her son, Gregory D. Waite and his companion Megan Moore of Clinton; grandchildren, Jordan Huxford, Jaydan Huxford and her brothers, Jace, Joshua and their mother Jenny Huxford of Lafayette; her sister, Mary Ellen (David) James of Brazil; brother, James Jenkins (Sandy) of Carbon; nephew, Alan (Sarah) James of Terre Haute; niece, Andrea James of Brazil; cousins, Scott and Jorita Wilson and their children, Bradley, Krista and Jennifer, John and Christine Clark and their children, John, Kathleen, Anita and David, Bill and Lois Daviess and their children, Marlene, Russell (D), and Don, Coral Ann (Dwayne) Boudin and Jack Daviess (D), Clementine and their children Pam, Tim, and Lisa; a large extended family; and a host of friends.
Celebration of life will be Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at 12:30 p.m. at Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., in Clinton, with Pastor Larry Snyder officiating. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Cremation was chosen. Flowers are welcome, but it friends desire, donations may be made to Victory Baptist Church, Parke-Vermillion Humane Society, or the local food pantry in her memory. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.
